Companionship care is support that focuses on company, conversation, and everyday presence rather than clinical nursing. Families often look for it when someone is lonely at home, needs a walk to the shops, help with meals, or a reliable person while relatives are at work. This page is plain English only. It is not a care agency and it does not assess anyone.

What companionship care usually covers
- Company and conversation. Time together at home, calls, or outings that the person wants.
- Light practical help. Meals, cups of tea, tidying, and reminders that do not need regulated nursing.
- Getting out. Walks, appointments, shops, or a social club when that is safe and agreed.
Ask where companionship ends and personal care or clinical tasks begin, so nobody assumes the wrong level of support.
Practical checks before you book
- Which tasks will the carer do, and which will they not do?
- May we see recent DBS information, relevant experience, and references?
- Who covers if the carer is ill?
- Is there a written rate, travel, minimum hours, and cancelation rule?
- Does the person want the same carer each visit, or is a rota acceptable?
